But the example shown by Shepard brokering peace between the Geth and the Quarians should be able to show the Catalyst that the potential for harmony between the two forms of life exists. There are ups and there are downs, wars can spark over causes minor and major, and sometimes races that cannot adapt or learn will die. The ultimate answer, which was not provided for in the story, is that the goal of imposing order on the Universe is flawed from the outset. Does anyone besides me have trouble with this? It seems like part of this "final solution" involved banning interstellar travel. Even though the Reapers were supposed to have used the knowledge of all the murdered races to help everyone rebuild, this evidently did not include the Mass Relays. Furthermore, in the final scene's discussion between the Stargazer and the child, it is clear that other forms of life on other planets is a matter for speculation and wonder, not experience and knowledge. I was shocked to see all the Mass Relays destroyed, stranding the entire combined fleet in Sol system and dooming the dextro-feeding Krogan and Turians to slow starvation. Shepard was always willing to sacrifice herself to save her crewmates, who were her family, and it was the only way presented to preserve her crew (EDI) and not commit genocide against an ally (the Geth) who were actively aiding the Quarians to return to their homeworld. On my first playthrough I selected Synthesis so that I would not break character.
